Hello world! Arranging a New Chapter: Welcome to HousePlans.GuruHello world!

For more than three decades, my work in residential design has been guided by a simple but enduring idea. It’s captured well by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha:

“No architect can say they invented the house. Take a novel or a short story that you like. The ingredients in it—passion, jealousy, a man, a woman, a cockroach, whatever it is—you don’t come up with them. You arrange them.”

The elements of a good home—light, proportion, circulation, comfort—are not new. They’ve been refined over generations. What matters is how they are arranged. That is where experience, judgment, and a careful hand make the difference.

HousePlans.Guru is built on that idea.

This is not just a website launch; it is the beginning of a new chapter in how I hope to serve homeowners, builders, and fellow designers. My goal is to make residential design more accessible, more understandable, and ultimately more successful for the people who have to live with the results. Whether you are exploring a stock plan, adapting a design to fit your lot, or starting from scratch, the process should feel guided—not overwhelming.

Through a growing network of experienced residential designers across the country, HousePlans.Guru connects you with professionals who understand both design and the realities of construction in your region. Good design is not just about how a home looks on paper; it is about how it performs on site, within the constraints of codes, climate, and community.

The “arranger” idea also shows up in a more personal way.

If you look closely at our logo, you’ll see a familiar figure—an older gentleman holding a set of plans. He is a tribute to my mentor, Bob Juengert. Bob taught me far more than drafting or detailing. He taught me how to see a home as a sequence of experiences—how light enters a room, how spaces relate to one another, how small decisions shape daily life. He had a sharp eye and an even sharper wit, and his influence still shows up in the way I approach every project.

Including him in the identity of HousePlans.Guru is intentional. It is a reminder that none of us work in isolation—we carry forward what we’ve learned, and we pass it along.

So this is an invitation.

Not just to browse plans or schedule a consultation, but to follow along as this platform grows and evolves. I’ll be sharing ideas, insights, and practical guidance drawn from years in the field—what works, what doesn’t, and what’s changing in residential design. If you’re thinking about building, remodeling, or simply trying to better understand your home, I hope this becomes a useful resource.

The ingredients are already there. The opportunity is in how they come together.

Welcome to HousePlans.Guru.
